Exploring Provence


Provence is a geographical region and historical province of southeastern France, which extends from the left bank of the lower Rhône River to the west to the Italian border to the east, and is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the south.

A distinct cultural identity, influenced throughout the ages from italy, spain and a historical backgroud, lots of musics, traditions, concert, carnavals and typical events, each village in this region and his surroundings has his own flavour

Lourmarin is situated inthe heart of the Luberon Regional Park with numerous hiking, bike/horse riding paths through wild thyme, rosemary and juniper.

I have lots of maps, guides and ideas to make the most of this wonderful place.

There are many attractive villages in the vicinity of Lourmarin.

Cucuron, Lauris, Ansouis, has each there own history and culture, as well as attractive place like the “jardin des plantes tinctoriales” in Lauris, well known place worldwide about the natural dyeing

Travelling north through the combe, a chaming little road appreciated by motards you are less than an hour from Bonnieux, Lacoste, Gordes, Apt, Ménerbes and Roussillon, to name but a few.

Talk about Roussillon and rustrel and ocres

Still in less one hour on West, Avignon, an historical keyplace with , with la “cité des Papes” an his famous “Pont d’Avignon”, a lot of cultural places and art manifestations.

Within another hour from here you reach a lot various of wine domains in the neiborough of the renommée Vaison La Romaine, wine tastig, visit of the productions…

talk about L’isle sur la sorgue ant antiquaires, art, fondation ddddd and fontaine de vaucluse

Talk about Gordes and village of bories

On the South Side, Larger towns within an hour’s drive include Aix-en-Provence, , Arles, St. Remy de Provence and Marseille.

The French Riviera with Antibes, Cannes with its famous film festival, Nice, and St. Tropez are all a day-trip from here.

Food Fresh fish Boullabaisse

Walking in the fjords of the Calanques between Cassis and Marseille. An hour’s drive for a swim, picnic or a boat trip.

Visit le Chateau d’if where the famous écrivain was took in custody

The Camargue is a protected natural reserve, 90 minutes to the south in the Rhone delta. Famous for birdwatching, black bulls, white horses and pink flamingoes.

Saintes Marie de la Mer, Flamenco,

In the direction of the East, The Gorges du Verdon is a spectacular canyon to the north east, a well nature preserved place, with hiking, camping, and river rafting. gorgeous landscapes and blue water
Nearby is the Plateau of Valensole with vast lavender fields and lakes.

Lavender fields abound with the harvesting taking place early July.
Olive culture and tradition, gives not only the oil but also the famous Savon de Marseille 70% with olive oil

sénanque Abayes is a famous historical place surrounded widht lavender, traditional distillation by monks from it gives various typical products that you can especially enjoy here

Activities you can pursue in the area include wine tasting, hiking, shopping at the local markets, French language lessons, painting & Photography workshopsRock climbing museums, sporting events, river rafting, etc…
